10th orthopedic OP-Camp

On February 8 the operating team returned to Germany again after an intense eight day mission in Asha Vihar.

The unresting working team (see picture on the right) performed 51 partly very complex operations with a total of 38 children of an age between 1 und 8:
       43 club-feet, 2 achillotenotomies ,1 hip correction, 1 polio-knee, 4 osteotomies
Without this surgical intervention the children would, according to our standards, all their life be handicapped on the heaviest. So however they all are now able to walk into a healthy and happy life.

During the OP-Camp the supply of the medical sector with solar energy became improved: a solar fridge used for important pharmaceuticals and sera comprising a photovoltaic module area of 6 m² were installed and taken into operation. The fridge can keep a temperature below 0°C at an environmental temperature of +40°C for at least 2 days without any power supply.

January 26 till February 8, 2007 / 10th OP-Camp

On January 26 the physician and assistant team will fly to the 10th orthopedic OP-Camp to Asha Vihar. Here the orthopedist-team of the "Fachklinik für Orthopädie Stenum" near Bremen (Germany) will operate a total of 37 patients, all children under 10 years, in the time of January 29 till February 6. The complete planning and controllership is again in the hands of Dr. H.-G. Zechel, chief physician of the "Fachklinik Stenum" and his wife Claudia Zechel. Mrs. Zechel is, accompanied by her little son Richard, already since the beginning of January in Asha Vihar, in order to settle all necessary formalities and preparations for a smooth operational sequence.

As always all participants will do their work also this time free of charge. The physicians pay beyond that their travel costs themselves, while the flights of the nurses and attendants are financed by donors. All team members sacrifice a part of their vacation for the mission in Asha Vihar, some of them even already quite a lot of years.

At this point a cordial 'Thank you' to all of them.

Deactivation of our mailboxes

Since several weeks our e-mail addresses are used by criminal elements, probably via so-called "anonymization servers" standing abroad, to get accounts by the offerers of internet casinos, gamblings etc. The bills for this are sended to us and each time we have to enter an objection. In view of the quantity of such criminal procedures a lot of work.
Therefore we have decided to deactivate all our mailboxes for the time being. Telephone and fax are naturally kept functioning.

Coordinates of Asha Vihar to use e.g. with Google Earth

Owing to our physician team, which just returned from its employment to Asha Vihar, - information follows - we are now in the possession of the accurate coordinates of Asha Vihar (more exactly the Vivekananda house, see interactive plan): 86° 00' 45,68''East / 23° 33' 21,74''North. By input of the coordinates into the free program "Google Earth" interested people can now locate our project in India very exactly. Unfortunately it lies (still?) marginally outside of the zones with high resolution, so that Asha Vihar themselves can not to be seen.

September/October 2006 / Gynaecological OP-Camp

For the fifth time, as before each year in autumn, the gynaecological OP-Camp will take place from 25 September to 7 October 2006. In the course of their ten day residence in Asha Vihar the physician team - Prof. Dr. H.-J. Voigt from Westpfalzklinikum Kaiserslautern and his wife Waltraud as well as the two gynaecologists Dr. Monika Nieland from Obrigheim/Pfalz and Dr. Michael Bahrdt from Hamburg - will perform more than 150 gynaecological operations. During their continuous efforts they will be assisted by an inidian anaesthetist.

The employment of our German helpers and friends is as always honorary and free of charge!
We say here to them a cordial 'Thank you' for their commitment.

February till July 2006

Great support got in this year the occupational field physical therapy in Asha Vihar.

First Monika Braun from Amberg as well as a friend continued in the spring the further education of our physical therapists which started in 2005 (about this will be reported on 20 October at 19 o'clock in a lecture at the FH Amberg ).
By two likewise arrived physical therapists, Alice Lormann from Duesseldorf and ChristianSturm from Cologne, the knowledge of our Indian coworkers could be deepened in particular within the range of neurological illnesses. Special attention was thereby given on the Bobath concept. During the treatment of humans of all ages it is thereby of great advantage that patient and therapist predominantly communicate nonverbal.
